Homework

Why is homework important?

Homework is important because it is at the intersection between home and academy. It serves as a window through which teachers and parents can observe the students education  and express positive attitudes towards their education.  As students grow older, homework and the amount of time engaged in homework, increases in importance. For teachers, homework is a cost effective way to provide additional instruction in practice.

Homework set prior to lessons will aid understanding. Homework also provides opportunities for reinforcement of work learned during Academy time and for young people to develop their research skills. Students will need to seek information for themselves from reference materials such as encyclopaedias, books, CD Roms and by doing so, are helped along the path to becoming independent learners.

Having the responsibility of the need to meet deadlines promotes self-discipline, an attribute which will impact on Academy work and beyond.

How much homework?

At the beginning of the Academy year ask about the Academy's homework policy. Parents need to know what kind of homework will be set, the guidelines for time to be spent and the Academy expectations of parents input. We ask students to keep homework diaries so you can see what homework is being given.
